Your Rites of May fun begins on the virtual Kenwood Mall where you will find International Booths, the Global Cafe and Recipe Library, Lab community performances, the Book Fair (in partnership with 57th Street Books), and more! Continue inside to the Games area, where you can play Tetris or Pictionary with friends, or join the U-High Esports team to play Among Us (available 11 a.m.–2 p.m).
In the Global Cafe, you can find a collection of recipes submitted by families at Lab, and links to our long-time food service providers from previous years in case you want to enjoy some take-out food at home. The Global Cafe has always been about connecting with our community through food, and so Rites of May provided meals to support those working at UChicago COVID clinics and vaccination sites. In addition, and in this year of financial difficulty and food insecurity, we are supporting the community through volunteering at the Greater Chicago Food Depository and through philanthropic gifts to the Food Depository and the Hyde Park Food Pantry. In lieu of Rites of May wristband fees and tickets for the Global Cafe, please consider making a gift in support of the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s efforts in Hyde Park.
Finally, what would Rites of May be without the treasured student-designed tie dye t-shirt? For many families purchasing a Rites of May t-shirt is a tradition, with one for every year at Lab and representing a child’s journey through the years. Thank you to everyone who submitted a design, they are all wonderful! T-shirts are still available for purchase through Sunday, May 16.
Thank you to everyone for their incredible work on Rites of May and thank all of you—the families of Lab, and our teachers and Lab staff. We are grateful to all of you and so happy and proud to be part of this incredible Lab Community.
Enjoy ROM! And for us, the ROM Planning Team, we are already looking forward to ROM 2022, when we will once again come together and celebrate! And if you have a moment, we would love to hear from you!
Have fun!
